Bon Secour Alabama

The community of Bon Secour Alabama is a 15 - 20 minute drive from the beaches of the Alabama Gulf Coast. To get there from Gulf Shores take Hwy-10 from Highway 59 (Gulf Shores Parkway) The short drive will show you a piece of the Alabama Gulf Coast that most tourists never see.

There are several restaurants in the area. One of the favorites is Tip Top Restaurant, directly on Hwy-10.

Tip Top Restaurant Bon Secour

You are not going to get lost here. Signs advertising the local businesses, especially the seafood shops, are everywhere. This collection is just across from Tip Top. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach wouldn't allow this, but it's just a part of the charm of this community.

Bon Secour Alabama

The community is located on Bon Secour Bay, on the inside coast of the Fort Morgan peninsula. The French established a fishing village here in the 1800s and the town's name, which means "safe harbor" in French, pays homage to its original settlers.

Billys Seafood Bon Secour

Many of the people who call Bon Secour home today still make their living as fishermen. Fishing has never been easy money, but today's global economy has made it a lot harder than it once was. Local fishermen who catch "wild caught shrimp" are finding it tougher and tougher with each passing year to compete against farmed shrimp from overseas.

Several markets on the water sell fish fresh off the boats, and they ship all over the United States. Some of the more well known ones include Billys Seafood, Aquilla Seafood, Safe Harbor Seafood and Bon Secour Fisheries. These businesses are worth the visit just to see the variety of edible creatures that swim in the Gulf.
