Day Trips from Gulf Shores

by Frank and Mary Ryan
(Streator, IL 61364)

We would like to take some day trips to some sights and cities around Gulf Shores when we are there. Please reply because I can't find anything on these pages for this.

Well be in Gulf Shores for 2 1/2 months. January, Feb, until the 15th of March. We will also have our sister and brother in-law whom came down last year with us.

GSTG.com: One of THE Best Things About MY 2009
by: Bonnie Bartel Latino

Hi, Bill...my Texas sister and her crazy friends are renting a condo in Gulf Shores in a few months. I've sent them links to your website so they are sure not to miss anything.

Thanks for being so generous with your tips and information.

I missed you on Twitter over the holidays! And I'll say it again: You may be the nicest man I
(N)ever met. I appreciate so much the massive support you and www.gulfshorestravelguide.com provided me during the Military Writers Society of America's 2009 People's Choice Award contest.

"The Rush of Butterflies" and I absolutely could not have won without your help.

Bon

"Day Tripping" While Visiting Gulf Shores, AL
by: BeachnRiver

Hello, this is Shelly of BeachnRiver Rentals. I have submitted a few restaurant reviews on this gulf-shores-travel-guide.com site. I hope you read and give some of the suggestions a try.

Bill has offered great suggestions on his "Day Trips" and "Things To Do" pages. He is very informative and offers insider tips you likely won't find on other sites. I'd like to strongly suggest you attend the many Mardi Gras events in and around the area.

You can find plenty of info in the free publications "The Mullet Wrapper" and "The Pelican" found online or at most grocers. The parades in Mobile are not to be missed. I also recommend taking a tour of Mobile's downtown. You may also enjoy visiting 5 River Delta Resource Center while en-route. It is a museum, informational center and has a nice trail along one of the rivers.

If in town the last weekend of March don't miss Elberta's Sausage Fest then head to Sweet Home Farm for artisanal Cheese. I post many suggestions and photos on BeachnRiver Rentals Facebook "Wall" to encourage people like yourself to travel "off the beaten path" while visiting the Alabama Gulf Coast. Have fun!

Gulf Shores Day Trips
by: Bill

Did you see my day trips site page?

Gulf Shores Day Trips

I think one of the best day trips from Gulf Shores is a visit to Fort Morgan, possibly stopping at Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge for a walk. From Fort Morgan take the ferry to Dauphin Island. If you have enough daylight left, drive into Mobile and visit the USS Alabama. Take I-10 to Gulf Shores Parkway to get back to Gulf Shores.

Another day you can drive in the opposite direction, but take Highway 98 into Fairhope, stopping by to visit the shops. If you think you've got enough time, drive the 30 minutes or so to Bellingrath Gardens in Theodore.

A day trip my wife and I enjoy is Biloxi, MS. We don't care for gambling, but we sometimes find a show at one of the casinos that looks like fun. We book a room for the night and visit a buffet that night and maybe one in the morning. If you don't drop a lot of money in the slot machines, this is a very good way to spend a couple days, spending a lot less money than something comparable would cost in Las Vegas.

The National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola is a good place to spend an afternoon. For a longer trip into Florida, you might want to visit Fort Pickens.

Deep sea fishing is a good way to spend the day. If you've never been, you should try it. Often, you can catch enough fish to pay for the trip.

I have pages on all of those suggestions that you can access from the day trips page or the side menu.
