Griffin & Sabine

When you are on a beach, looking out over the vastness of the ocean, you're not really on a beach any more but anywhere you want to be. It is one of the few places you can go where your mind is allowed to be a blank canvas for as many imaginings as you can dream up.
Reading a book like Griffin & Sabine will quickly color that canvas with its pages of beautiful and ornate art by the artist/author Nick Bantock. The story is about two people living on opposite sides of the world who start up a correspondence with one another. One problem though, one of them may or may not be real.
You literally get to spy into their letters to each other by way of opening up the envelopes stitched into the book itself. This unique and creative way to interact with the book allows the reader to feel like they're part of the story. You feel the growing emotions between the main characters, and you travel alongside them as they try to reach one another. You are a part of this mysterious relationship.
With the exotic imagery, both visual and verbal, this is a perfect read to take with you to the beach. Listening to the waves, you can make-believe that you too are on an amazing adventure across the seas to places unknown.
