Gulf Island Grill

by Justin Beck
(Chicago)

Hello my name is Justin Beck, I currently live in Chicago, Illinois. Last year I made my first trip to Alabama, to visit my new brother-in-law. I consider my self a Yankee and had never ventured down South before or had never had much Southern cooking. Our first night on the coast, .we out to a local restaurant that none of us have ever tried before. The name was Gulf Island Grill

If you like seafood this is the place. It is a very clean restaurant with good service and great Southern fried food. Their menus consisted of crawfish, crawfish tails, lobster, and fresh fish. That night I ordered the mango shrimp salad. I tasted good and the portions were huge, I have never had shrimp that big in my life.

My wife ordered the grilled fish sandwich. It came with a beautiful salad with- ripe tomato slices and fresh-looking leafy lettuce. I forget what my brother-in-law ordered, but he had a very large portion of food as well.

The prices were very reasonable. For all three of us, the cost was under $50 and that was with drinks included. That night Long Island ice teas were on for special at $5. I had one and let me tell you, that thing was strong.

I had never had a Long Island before that, and I don't think I will again. I had a bad headache the next day. But if you like to drink, I would say that is the place to go I would highly recommend it.
