Gulf Shores Pet CareOwning a pet can be a joy, but it does complicate a vacation. Some pet owners will not leave home without their pets, and most of those who do leave them behind miss them and worry about their welfare. However, if you can find a responsible person or business to take care of your pet at home while you are away, that is probably better for both you and your pet. Unfortunately Gulf Shores generally doesn't welcome pets. Pets are forbidden by law on the beaches. Most condo associations will not allow renters to bring pets onto the property (some will not even allow condo owners to have pets). Some of the motels do allow pets. Most charge a pet fee, and some have size limits. Check this site for pet friendly motels in the area. Some of the beach homes on the island do allow pets. If you book early, you can probably find one by running down the list of homeowners or their agents until you find one that says "yes." If you do find lodging that will accept your pets, you might need the services of a Gulf Shores pet care professional to go out to dinner, shopping, or a show. The best bet here is to call a local vet, and ask for recommendations. Pet sitters usually go in and out of the business pretty fast, so you might find that the one you used last year is no longer pet sitting. Most vets on the island and nearby cities also board animals. Some beach tourists board their animals for the entire vacation. Here's one of the larger "pet resorts" near Gulf Shores that offers boarding and "doggie day care."
Gulf Coast Veterinary Hospital 251-974-5633 --- Canal Road Animal Hospital 251-968-7387 If your pet gets lost, it's a good idea to check the vets in the area. If you want a place to let your dog run free for awhile, visit the Orange Beach Dog Park.
