Gulf Shores Rentals - Something for Everyone

Over the last twenty years there has been a surge of Gulf Shores rentals. There is probably something to suit any preference and budget. Today, Gulf Shores, Alabama offers everything from campgrounds to the ultimate in luxury condos. Pamper yourself, rough it, or book something in between. The choice is yours.

Actually there are more choices now in the Gulf Shores area than the average tourist who visits once or twice a year knows about. We know of a girl who spent her honeymoon in an Orange Beach condo on Terry Cove. She and her new husband drove onto the condo property grounds from Canal Road. They spent five days at the condo and thought they were on the beach. They didn't know anything different until they visited us several years later at our beachfront condo. We all got a big laugh out of that, but something of that nature probably happens more often than one might think.Turquoise Place Orange Beach

There is a lot of water in the Gulf Shores area, and most tourists become familiar and comfortable sticking to what they know.

Most tourists do gravitate towards the beach. It is always going to be that way, because most visitors want to spend the majority of their vacation time as close as possible to the Gulf of Mexico. Oddly enough, many will spend little time on the sand. The majority of their time will be spent at the pool and on the patio - but there's still something about hearing those waves break ...

Realizing that the beach is a magnet for most people, there are still advantages to staying off the beach. Generally speaking, it is less expensive. It is less crowded during peak times. If you have a boat and want to bring it with you, some rentals off the beach offer docking privileges. For those who want to get a real taste of the outdoors, Gulf State Park offers some very nice campgrounds.

During peak times, most of the lodging on the beach is booked well in advance. If you have a favorite place to stay, book early. Certain types of lodging is more difficult to come by than others. For example, the last few years has brought a disproportionate number of high end, three and four bedroom luxury condos to the Alabama Gulf Coast. That was where condo developers and investors made the most money, so that was what was built. This has made the less older, less expensive condos, which suit many families just fine, more scarce.

The condo boom and the recent hurricanes, especially Hurricane Ivan, led to the destruction of many of the once popular motels, making the ones that are left rent for astonishingly high prices during peak times. If you spend a little time researching Gulf Shores rentals and then book early, it is possible to get a very nice condo for the price of a tiny hotel room, or less.

Now more than ever it pays to study the Gulf Shores rental market before booking.
