"Although the area is still open to the public, we rope off the reserved area, post the announcement for all to see on a board and suggest best hours for events according to size," says 24-yr veteran State Park Pavilion manager Penny Lamar.



"Most people are respectful when they see others holding parties in the pavilion," she says. "There are designated locations reserved for caterers to cook things like shrimp and crayfish, but for more involved meals or to grill you will also have access to the park and pavilions located across the street close to Lake Shelby," she adds.

The soaring outdoor pavilion is staged with a two-sided three-story floor to ceiling fireplace "backdrop" --- perfect for set up with flowers, arbor or other decorations. It has plenty of seating at the picnic tables overlooking the pristine, white sandy beach and the Gulf of Mexico. Volleyball nets dot the landscape and everywhere you look you see newly planted dunes with picturesque sea oats and fenced picket wind breaks.
