Kayaking Pictures - Bon Secour River
After taking off our shoes and seating ourselves in our kayaks, we began paddling down the tributary, reaching the Bon Secour River in just a few minutes.
Upon entering the river, we stopped for a few minutes to watch some kids as they took turns climbing a tree nest to the water's edge to swing from a dangling rope. They were having loads of fun. Flowers, wax myrtles, Southern magnolias, ferns,Southern magnolias, saw palmetto palms, and yaupon hollies all under a canopy of live oaks is a common scene on the river. Huge, beautiful elephant ears are all over the river banks and in the water. Occasionally, we came across big trees that have been uprooted by hurricanes. We were able to get directly under this bird sitting on her nest. Somebody lost a fishing float on this tree limb. The Bon Secour River is full of fish, both freshwater and saltwater. Mallards resting on a log. This great blue heron is waiting on a meal. We'd sometimes just float for awhile, taking in the scenery. Kayaking the Bon Secour River is a pleasant way to spend a day on the Alabama Gulf Coast and take home some good kayaking photos. The weather was a little threatening the day that we went out, so we decided against going into Bon Secour Bay. Paddle into the bay and the scenery changes. Paddling near dolphins would be a highlight of the trip. Maybe next time.
