Miami or Bust? Bust

by Jordan
(Nashville)

My family and I haven’t been to Miami in a few years. It was one of our favorite vacation spots and we have hardly ever had a bad time since we’ve visited. We haven’t taken a vacation in a while, so we were planning on going in on a cheap hotel and spending most of our days at the beach. It was going to be for 4-5 days.

We made our hotel reservations and all back in February and were supposed to leave next week. When news of the oil spill hit, we kind of ignorantly figured that it would be cleaned up and done with before we hit the beach. Unfortunately, we had no idea that it was our first vacation in years versus the largest oil spill this country has ever seen. After seeing the photos last week of what the damage was to the coast of Louisiana and after hearing it was headed towards Florida, we realize that our family vacation wasn’t going to work.

Even if the oil didn’t reach the shores of Miami, we just didn’t feel like taking the risk. That and it really is an inappropriate time to be at the beach if you’re not helping clean up. So unfortunately, we’ll have to wait til next year.
