Moes BBQ Daphne
The Best BBQ and Catfish

Written by "Beachin' Betty"

Love Moes BBQ For Their BBQ --- But Believe, They Also Have Best Fried Catfish Around!

Anyone that has ever eaten at Moes BBQ in Daphne, AL will tell you it is the best BBQ around these parts. The BBQ is made rotisserie style and smoked in oak. Ribs are dry seasoned with BBQ sauce drizzled atop. They are fat, juicy and fall off the bone tender.

Your meal comes with a choice of two sides. Sides will make you dizzy. They are mostly homemade. The Sweet Potato Casserole is like dessert. The vinegar-based cucumber salad is refreshingly wonderful. When asked if the collards come from a can the cook exclaims, "Lord NO!" They are cooked to a dense texture and are slightly sweet. Are you in the mood for chicken and dumplins? They are a considered a side --- as well as macaroni and cheese.

Moes Daphne Your order comes with a choice of cornbread (which is toasted with a salted butter) or hush puppies. I always choose cornbread. It is slightly sweet. You can almost count it as dessert --- it is THAT good.

This trip? I crave fried Mississippi catfish. When I receive my plate and take a bite I exclaim, "OMG this is HANDS DOWN the BEST fried catfish I've eaten anywhere on the Alabama Gulf Coast." The seasonings are perfectly balanced. It is such a perfect blend I am compelled to ask what makes the "crust" taste so good! "Fillets are dipped in a mostly flour base with a sprinkling of cornmeal," says the cook. They are seasoned with garlic salt, cayenne and black pepper, he adds. The fillets are fried up perfectly --- crispy on the outside yet leave the fish tender and "wet" on the inside.

I have yet to try Moes BBQ in Orange Beach, AL --- mostly because I love the shady, end-of-the-road ambiance of the restaurant in Daphne. I have also come to appreciate the cooks at the Daphne location. They beam with pride when you ask about their homemade specialties. They are enthusiastic to say the least.

Moes Daphne Don't go expecting "ambiance." You order at a window. A number is yelled for pickup. Meals are served on Styrofoam plates and service is plastic. You help yourself to drinks and clean up after eating.

I ask if Moes BBQ in Orange Beach serves up food in the same manner and am assured "yes." They also offer shrimp I am told.

So if you want to find the best BBQ in the Daphne/Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, AL area, be SURE to get to Moes Original BBQ.

I'm going to stick my neck out to say if you get a craving for fried Catfish you won't find better. But please don't take my word for it! Learn which day features "catfish specials" and try it for yourself. You'll return for more. Mark my word!
