Of Course I'm Partial But ... The Alabama Gulf Coast Is Still a Great Vacation

One Of BeachnRiver's Favorite Kayaking Spots
My hubby and I came to Gulf Shores while on an extended RV adventure. We stayed at the State Park for a few days. We loved staying directly on the lake, enjoyed the trails, rode our bikes along the beach and explored other towns like Ft. Morgan, Bon Secour, Magnolia Springs, Fairhope, Mobile, Dauphin Island and even Pensacola, FL. (Aside from immersing in "Deep South" culture and architecture you and your children will learn much about history as so many interesting events took place here.)
While on one of our Day Trip "excursions" we happened to drive over the Bon Secour River on Cty Rd 10 (enroute to Billy's Seafood). We detoured.
To make a long story short we purchased land, bought a kayak and started making daily kayak trips down the Bon Secour River. We loved the "Huck Finn" charm of seeing kids jump into the swimming holes from rope swings. We loved how the deeply canopied waters at river's end change from Live Oaks to tall Pines to the open coastal waters. We loved the friendly spirit of homeowners along the way.
I love the beach as much as anyone. I'm heartsick about this oil situation and hope visitors still consider that there is so much MORE this South Alabama has to offer than beach activities.
I encourage all to check out various links on this site, read Trip Advisor Forums, (check out reviews) and also keep tabs on the Gulf Shores CVB page where Rebecca Wilson will keep your spirits up and offer great suggestions of fun activities as she reports daily of beach conditions.
If you vacation anywhere in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach be sure to tune into the local cable channel 14 for Coast 360's "Beyond the Beach" series.
Now more than ever is a good time for you and your family to discover "new adventures" and show your support to the Alabama Gulf Coast that has offered so much.
