Orange Beach Waterfront Park

Orange Beach waterfront Park Photo

We spent some time recently at the Orange Beach Waterfront Park, located on Canal Road 1/4 mile east of Highway 161 (Orange Beach Alabama). This park is easy for tourists to overlook. The majority of them turn at highway 161 and head straight to the beach. Those who do visit the park, quickly find out why locals like it so much. It is a first class park with great amenities.

Near the entrance is the Kid's Park, complete with slides, swings and climbing areas. This will keep most kid's busy for awhile.

Throughout the park are covered shelters, picnic tables, and grills. Probably the most favored shelter in the park is in this photo. Get there early on warm weekends and during the summer, so you can picnic close to the water.

The park is nicely landscaped with winding sidewalks and plenty of parking.

The sandy beach at the park might be another option if the beaches on the Gulf of Mexico are extremely crowded or the parking lots are full. It might also be a good place to get in the water when the Gulf is too rough or full of jellyfish.

Two covered pavilions on the pier keep the sun off fishermen when the weather is hot.

On this day the water was murky and the wind was a little breezy, yet this speckled trout took a live shrimp. Bigger trout sometimes bite off the pier, along with redfish, flounder, white trout and just about anything else that swims in Wolf Bay.

The pier is also a good place to cast a net for mullet or set out a crab basket. Keep your eyes on the water, especially in the late afternoon - dolphins love Wolf Bay.
