Pirates Cove --- Go Barefoot, Let Your Hair Down And Feed the Dogs!
by Shelly of Beach'n'River(Foley, Al)If you enjoyed the casual restaurant/bar scene of Gulf Shores, Alabama "pre-hurricanes" you will understand the "feeling" of Pirate's Cove Restaurant and Bar. Let me explain. Prior to the hurricanes of late (Ivan, Dennis, Katrina) it was possible to walk the beach and in any manner of dress--- bare-footed, bikini-clad, bare-chested, whatever --- and step into a number of open-air mom/pop casually-styled restaurant/bars to enjoy a drink, listen to live entertainment, feed the dogs and have a great time. Those days are gone in Gulf Shores. If that "feeling" --- one of complete casualness and freedom appeals to you, I suggest you stave the appetite and thirst about an hour and head to Pirate's Cove at the end of the road, off Arnica Bay in a little town called Josephine. The name "Pirate's Cove" conjures up a mood and feeling that you may be "getting away with something" --- if you allow yourself. The ambiance, mood and feeling you experience at Pirate's Cove will not be something you will be able to explain to Mama --- yet it's an environment where kids feel free to roam and play. If you allow yourself, you become embraced in what seems to be a welcoming family of strangers. Kids, pets, people will befriend you, beg for food, settle at your feet. Go with it. While you're at it you may discover another side of yourself --- one that can let go of everyday cares, and you'll enjoy an experience that used to be common up and won the Alabama Gulf Coast, before Ivan and the other hurricanes washed away the dives. It's a "be free feeling" that you'll probably like. For music lineup or to learn more of Pirate's Cove go to:
