The Shrimp Basket

by Lynn of Akron, Ohio

Choosing a favorite restaurant in Gulf Shores isn’t an easy task. There are so many good restaurants to choose from. But if I were to choose my favorite, I’d have to choose the Shrimp Basket on Hwy 59, not far from the beach. It’s a small restaurant. Nothing fancy. But they have a nice outdoor patio. The patio is the perfect place to sit and enjoy lunch on a warm, sunny day. The restaurant is usually very busy in the summer, so be prepared to wait to be seated. The wait is usually short and well worth your time. Even though they’re busy, the service is fast and the servers are always friendly.

My husband and I ate there four times during our two-week vacation. The first time we ate there on a Wednesday. That is the day that they offer the all-you-can-eat shrimp basket. They also offer it on Sunday. It was delicious! The basket contained at least 30 large, hot, crispy shrimp. They also offer other all-you-can-eat specials throughout the week.

Their potato salad is great; it has a sweet, smoky taste that I loved. The fried okra is also very tasty, and we couldn’t get enough of their shrimp slaw! The fries are also excellent and served piping hot. They also have the best hush puppies and most delicious tarter sauce. I actually don’t usually like tarter sauce, but I love their tarter sauce. The prices were reasonable and comparable to other restaurants in the area.

Though we have only visited the one in Gulf Shores, there are several others, scattered about. We saw one in Perdido Beach FL and one in Orange Beach and noticed two more on the way out of town in Foley and Bay Minette.
