A Perfect Way to Spend
a Relaxing AfternoonThe Gulf Shores Museum is a must see for anyone visiting the area. It’s the local history museum. The museum is located in an original beach house that was donated to the Gulf Shores city after Hurricane Fredrick.
The museum has information about hurricanes, focusing on Hurricane Fredrick and Hurricane Ivan and the effects that those hurricanes have had on the Gulf Shores community. The museum's goal is to offer more information that encourages awareness and preparation for future hurricanes.
The museum also has artifacts from the early shrimping and fishing industries in the Gulf Shores area. The museum has a collection from WWII veterans, the Speckled Trout Fishing Rodeo, and a small exhibit from the 1900s about a village in the Navy Cove area where Lower Bar Pilots and their families lived. The museum has also been the home of the Lagoon Village exhibit since 1999.
During the cold weather months, the museum focuses on other areas of Alabama. There is a series of video in conjunction with these exhibits. In the warm weather months, there are children’s crafts and videos for all members of the family.
The Gulf Shores Museum is the perfect way to spend a relaxing afternoon. It is a family friendly museum and there is surely something there to spark the interests of every member of your family. I would recommend a visit to the museum to anyone planning a trip to the area. It’s entertaining, informative, and sure not to disappoint.
