The Hangout at Gulf Place

by Ryan
(Banks, OR, USA)

The Hangout was a great place to visit while on vacation. The owner must have spent a lot of money getting this business up, because the place is really beautiful. It's a great place for children as well as adults; they have a sand pile playground where children can play while the adults are waiting for their food.

The Hangout is also a great place to take teens; they regularly have bands playing with a seating area around a fire. They have great Mojitos and delicious foods. There are also 4 bars in the restaurant, so finding alcohol wasn't an issue.

I ordered the Shaka-Shaka shrimp and it was amazing. They also have the biggest burgers on the island. Indeed, it costs a little more than the average restaurant, and it is economically a tough time, but the experience was well worth the extra spending.

There's an event that takes place at this restaurant from time-to-time when the kitchen gets backed up, where the waiters and waitresses jump on the tables for a dance number. The gift shops were fun to shop at, they had a wide selection of humorous gifts.

One of the only issues that I had during my experience was the parking. The parking lot was a nightmare, and finding a spot to park was rather difficult.

The employees over-all were very friendly and courteous and made sure that my experience was a good one.

To sum things up, The Hangout was a great place to visit, and I would recommend it to anyone who is on vacation or visiting the area. Although it can be a bit expensive, the experience that you and your family will have will be worth the while.

So Much Fun!
by: THE BUCKNERS

We went in April 2010, going back end of April 2011. We had a wonderful time and love all of Gulf Shores-- the food, the people, the sand and sun. We love going to the Hangout for dinner or after dinner to set and listen to music.

A great place to eat and play
by: Anonymous

I went to eat here back in June 2010 and had a great time. I did not have to wait long to be seated. The food and service were good. The hangout has a sand pit out back to keep the kids occupied and a stage for bands to play. The hangout is an open air restaurant so you can eat and feel the breeze off the ocean. It is located on the beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The dresscode is casual.

My Vist to the Hangout - Jimmy Buffet's Oil Relief Show
by: Anonymous

I've been bartending on the Gulf Coast for many years. I always considered myself above average in bar skills.

Today was Jimmy Buffett's Oil Relief Show... I got sick of drinking beer, so I decided to have a drink at the Hangout. The bar was packed. I estimate two people deep around the bar... (most bartenders don't consider that busy...haha)... there were 4 people trying to make drinks behind the bar.

Many of us waited for a good hour, still... no dice. A customer makes a comment about the people behind the bar working at a slow pace... The man behind the bar responded "there are like 400 people here and only four of us behind this bar". I chuckled when I heard that because 400 people isn't that many people... In fact, it should only take two bartenders to serve 400 people. Their tip jars was lacking - barely any money in them... What a waste of potential tips... After waiting over an hour my group, and others beside us, decided to just go to a real bar.

If the owner of the Hangout is reading this, I highly recommend that you review your staff's capability and work ethics... I make between 575 to 650 drinks within the five hours that the club is open... How many drinks are your bartenders dishing out? I'm sure they don't even come close... And that is costing you money.

This is about the bartenders that were working within the main bar 7/11/2010 between 5:30 to 6:30. That white guy with the bald head and tattoos was definitely the worst... Every bartender at that bar was only taking one order at a time... Seriously? If you are unable to multitask, you should not be behind the bar.

These bartenders should get a job as a cashier at the Dollar Tree. I don't really have any reviews on food or drinks... I wonder why?

Horrible Service - Overpriced Food
by: Anonymous

I have been to the Hangout several times now – I suppose in hopes that something might improve. Sadly, I am always very disappointed. Do I believe the Hangout has great potential? Absolutely. The owner himself I was told is quite the business man; now if only he’d hire better employees. The dining room management is never available. One lady named Angela (?) who stated she was the office manager happened to be strolling through and was more than willing to assist us; this was of course only after we waited 15 minutes for the dining room manager. The servers are dreadfully dirty looking and there doesn’t seem to be any uniformity among them. One had on what looked like a sweatshirt that had never been washed while the other gentlemen had on raggly old bracelets that had strings dangling in my water. When the servers aren’t standing around chatting with one another their helping anybody but their tables. The food is definitely not worth the price you pay. I had a special one-time which was absolutely wonderful. Apparently they do not keep anything good around there for any length of time. So if you want to waste your time and your money, I say go for it. When The hangout hires a new crew of employees and improves there menu, I’ll be the first to give it another shot.
