Wintzell's Oyster House

by Joleen
(Georgia)

Wintzell's Oyster House in Mobile, Alabama is the absolute best place for oysters!

I first discovered this restaurant when my husband and I went to Mobile to depart for a cruise that we were going on this past summer. We are from Georgia, so we have been next-door neighbors to Alabama our entire lives, but we had never been to Mobile. We wanted to check out the city of Mobile, so we visited the day before our cruise was to depart.

We had a lovely day enjoying the town, and for dinner we really wanted to get in the "beachy" mood by eating seafood, etc. Some friends of ours had suggested that we go to Wintzell's Oyster House, so we decided to give it a try. We were definitely glad that we did!

I love oysters, and Wintzell's had the best! I've had oysters many different places, but these sure did take the cake. I ordered my oysters fried, and with coleslaw and fries. While it probably wasn't the most healthy thing... it was absolutely delicious. The coleslaw was perfect, and the fries were great!

My husband is a shrimp man, and also a bacon man, and Wintzell's had the perfect dish for him: Bacon Wrapped Shrimp. His eyes lit up when he saw it on the menu, and it most certainly didn't disappoint. He ordered his shrimp with a salad and fried okra. He loved the salad dressing, which was the house dressing that they make themselves. He also loved the way that the okra was fried, and said it was even better than his grandmother's (and I never expected those words to come out of his mouth!).

If we are ever back in the Mobile area, one can bet that we will be stuffing our faces at Wintzell's Oyster House.
