You Can Eat Hardhead Catfish?

I was reading your article on the hardhead catfish. I am one who doesn't disregard any fish I catch. I love 'em all! I wanted to let you know though that we packed in about 7 of them on my recent trip to the Indian River. I filled them and fried them. The meat is actually rather delicious! I could even go to say I enjoyed it better than freshwater cats that I commonly catch.

Hardheads
by: Anonymous

I used to throw them back until a stranger in a canoe from Canada told me he wanted my fish. I took a few home and they fileted out easy with my electric knife. They tasted as good as any other fish. I will never throw them back again.

Hardhead Cats
by: Mike, of NC

Despite all the hype of hardhead cats not being tasty, or not even tasting good, I seasoned and fried some as I always do with my channel cats, and they were actually pretty tasty, and even more flavorful in my opinion.

Don't let someone talk you out of trying them.
I can say after getting poked very deep by one I can see why people hate the hardhead. Holy cow, it stung like no other catfish, of any size. I think this is why they get a bad rap. Some critics got stung.

As far as being food, I can say it was at least as good as channel cats. Give it a try for your own opinion.

Hardhead Catfish
by: Bill

People who have eaten hardhead catfish say they taste good. Most fisherman hate handling them so bad that they don't want to take them home.

Good that you did.
